Treat every day like it was your last

Today I got to work and found a system email saying that because I had been someone's manager (and that person has resigned) I had to review their personal website to see whether I needed to save anything important as it was due to be deleted soon.

 

It kind of filled me with dread, but I was glad to see that there was nothing in there besides their photo which appears on the site.

 

However, it got me thinking about mine. It was telling - there has been nothing new put in there since 2008. How about that? Well, anyway, it made things easy. There was so much that was out of date. Forms and templates I had saved, ideas on how to improve (now obsolete) systems. I cleaned up a lot of it, but there are a few folders where I'm not sure whether its needed. I guess I haven't even looked at these things for the last 3 years - why would they still matter?

 

I hope I get through it. It would be a big headache if someone else had to wade through these documents and decide if they were important after I'm gone.

Today I was heading into work with 2 bags of chips (they were 2 for 1, what can you do?). As I went in through the door, my work mate said: do you have a morning tea on today?

 

I replied, "No."

 

She said, "Having a party by yourself, then?"

 

She doesn't know the half of it!!!

Whether it is true or not, I don't know.

 

But like an innocent child, I feel glad to hear of these things.

 

(regarding a man driving the wrong way on a one way):

"It is understood a truck driver alerted the driver that he was travelling in the wrong direction, then assisted him by blocking traffic, whilst the man did a U-turn near Toorak Road."

 

Was he being helpful or sensible? Was he swearing like a pirate's parrot all the time the codger was turning his caravan? Who knows. But he could have let the guy handle it alone, and let the rest of the cars figure out what was going on.

In the comments one person has recommended keeping it all in South Brisbane, but I tell you, it is a pain in the butt. The whole suburban adventure means that someone is disadvantaged as they have to take two rides of public transport (one into the city, then another one to the suburb).

 

Give the city a venue, and you are not only selling a show to everyone, everywhere, but also boosting late night customers to a range of outlets from tourist shops to eateries.
