The Cave of Forgotten Dreams

I watched this last night however, it was not in 3D. A little disappointing. The documentary follows a small expedition into the Chauvet caves in Southern France, which is a treasure trove of ancient art, fossils and glittering stagtites.
I have read a few reviews where the authors felt that Werner Herzog's meandering voiceover was annoying, but I found it quite charming, and sometimes even unintentionally humourous. For example, there is a moment where he tells an archeaologist his dreams were scary, and is contradicted, "No, I was not scared".
And of course, the classic moment, where he orders everyone to be quiet, as we are now going to listen to the silence in the cave.
I liked this little steel footpath they had installed in the cave, and even a little cut out to go around a stalagmite. I wondered how they crawled around with their hard hats and avoided breaking off any of the very thin, strawlike stalagtites. The glittering was a wonderment, and the ruffled sheets hanging from the ceiling was amazing. Calcified curtains.
The demo of spear throwing was good too. The film was filled with people passionate about their work, and some of them quite kooky. The inclusion of the master perfumer, who was trying to sniff out further underground treasures on the hill was a nice touch.
